Apply now for our winter/spring 2026 communications intern position!
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis; all applications submitted before December 12th will be prioritized
Do you want an in-depth experience at the heart of tech policymaking in Congress and Washington, D.C.? TechCongress seeks a self-motivated graduate or undergraduate student or an individual with similar experience for a part or full-time internship during the Winter / Spring 2026 semester. You should have an interest in learning about and improving Congress or technology policy.
TechCongress is building 21st century government with technology talent through our Congressional Fellowships. We are a nonprofit with a mission to bridge the divide between Congress and the technology sector by placing technologists with Members of Congress and Congressional Committees to build capacity in Congress, train cross-sector leaders — who can understand the challenges of government and the technology community — and keep Congress up-to-date about the latest challenges and opportunities relating to technology.
We prefer hybrid schedules (minimum 2 days/week in our Washington, D.C. office) but will consider remote candidates.
This is a paid position ($18/hour).
You'll be a core member of our Communications Team, working directly on projects that shape how TechCongress’s audiences—ranging from Congress and the tech sector to state legislatures and the general public—understand the role of technology talent in policymaking.
Build compelling narratives. Draft content for multiple audiences (fact sheets, public-facing blog posts, social media campaigns, press materials) that translate our fellows' accomplishments into stories about how technology expertise changes legislative outcomes.
Own our monthly newsletter. Research fellow accomplishments, coordinate with partners across our network, and use marketing automation tools to deliver insights about tech policy opportunities, congressional capacity and all things TechCongress to our community.
Shape our digital presence. Propose, draft, and publish website content that keeps our story current. Develop social media campaigns and analyze engagement data to refine our strategy.
Support core events. Internally, you’ll help execute our 2026 fellow orientation and recruitment events. Externally, you’ll coordinate high level panels, webinars and in-person networking events that connect technologists and share our learnings.
Contribute to strategy. Analyze communications performance, pitch content ideas, and make recommendations that improve how we reach target audiences.
You'll also have opportunities to author or co-author published content and attend policy events that deepen your understanding of how technology and government intersect.
Required Qualifications:
Strong writing skills with the ability to adapt tone and complexity for different audiences.
Self-direction and project ownership. You can take an assignment from concept to completion.
Organizational skills and attention to detail that ensure quality under deadline pressure.
Availability for 20-40 hours/week (part-time or full-time).
Additional Skills (a plus, but not required):
Familiarity with communications tools (e.g., Squarespace, MailChimp, Zapier, Canva, Hootsuite).
Comfort with (or ability to learn) the Google Suite (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Calendar, Google Drive).
Experience managing organizational social media accounts (non-personal accounts).
Interest in tech policy and government.
Application Process:
To apply, please submit a resume, answer our application questions, and provide a brief (no more than 2 page) writing sample through our application on Screendoor. Internships are paid $18/hour. An early-January start date would be preferable. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis; all applications submitted before December 12th will be prioritized.
