supporting state legislature science and technology policy fellowships (stpfS)
We believe that technology should serve every American. Since 2015, TechCongress has placed over 100 technologists in Congress to support technology legislation in dozens of congressional offices, committees and subcommittees. Individual state legislatures are charged with navigating the implications of emerging technology—such as artificial intelligence (AI), cryptocurrency and machine learning—on their constituents’ needs, while staying apprised of fast-moving developments at the federal level. Over 10 years of supporting federal tech policymaking have equipped TechCongress with the tools, expertise and talent to supplement STPF state-level programming, so that tech services continue to reach those who need them most.
In 2025, we placed our first state fellow in Connecticut’s legislature to advise on technology policymaking. Dean Alderucci, TechCongress alum (2024 Senior Congressional Innovation Fellow) is helping chart a course for informed and impactful legislation in Connecticut. He brings a wealth of experience and robust civic tech expertise to the state’s government.
TechCongress’ congressional fellowship model scales to preexisting STPFs across state legislatures, introducing a robust mechanism for meeting the needs of the moment among those who are downstream of federal policymaking. We welcome opportunities to collaborate with state STPF programs, so that tech has a seat at every table.
