Lacey is a technology researcher and policy entrepreneur committed to making the United States a more accountable democracy through technology. She is interested in leveraging emerging technologies to promote democratic ideals like privacy rather than authoritarian outcomes.
Recently, she worked at the Plaintext Group by Schmidt Futures to revitalize the federal government's open data movement and bolster their ability to practically apply privacy-enhancing technologies. She also helped lead the Technologist in Government program at Schmidt Futures, whose mission is to bring 10,000 technologists into government by supporting initiatives like Tech in Service Secondments.
Her writing on the constitutionality of algorithmic decision systems has been published in the Penn Undergraduate Law Journal, and her playbook for opening federal government data has been published by the Day One Project. Her research has been used to support an industry expert's publication on digital influence in political elections worldwide.
Lacey holds a B.A. in information science with a concentration in American studies from Columbia University.
