Marissa Gerchick
Marissa is a researcher and technologist focused on understanding the design, deployment, and implications of artificial intelligence in social systems online and offline. Marissa is passionate about mitigating the harms of algorithmic systems and promoting the use of technology to increase access to opportunity.
Marissa recently graduated from Stanford University with an M.S. in Management Science and Engineering, focused on Computational Social Science. Marissa also holds a B.S. in Mathematical and Computational Science from Stanford University, where she conducted interdepartmental research on questions of law, policy, and technology.
Previously, Marissa was a data scientist at the Stanford Computational Policy Lab, where she used statistical tools to understand the impact of policy decisions and algorithmic systems with applications in the criminal legal system, policing, and social network analysis. Marissa is also interested in policies to ensure artificial intelligence is transparent and interpretable, having worked on issues around algorithmic explainability on the technology team at In-Q-Tel, Inc. and the data science team at Fiddler Labs, a Bay Area startup.
Marissa is serving with the Senate Judiciary Committee Antitrust Subcommittee under Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and working on AI, data privacy, and connectivity issues.
